We all know and accept that deployment is a part of the military lifestyle but that doesn't make the separation any easier. Deployment is something that affects all members of the family. Although deployment is not a frequent occurence at CFB Suffield or BATUS, we are not immune to the stresses of our military members having to leave their families behind because of operational duties. While the majority of our services are meant to be utilized by adults, we encourage you to get your children involved in our regular activities and programs to help them pass the time while that someone special is away. What is Deployment...Really?!

The Director of Military Family Services defines Deployment in this way:

Deployment is the assignment of military personnel to temporary unaccompanied tour of duty away from [a] base, wing, station, unit, [or] detachment for a period exceeding 30 days.

A Sample of Services Available for Deployment Support...

  • Deployment Support Resources - This includes articles and information on the stages of deployment and how it effects children and couples; children's books; ideas on activities for children and families; information on Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, etc.
  • Warm Line Calls - This is a confidential phone service offered to all spouses of deployed personnel. The Warm Line acts as a compassionate ear...one that understands the military lifestyle with all its ups and downs. It's also a way for us to connect you with the MFRC as a reminder of the services that we have in place to support you and the family.
  • Emergency Childcare Services - The goal of this service is to support the ability of CF members to be available for duty, including deployments on short notice, by maximizing parents' access to affordable and regulated childcare.
  • Mission Information Line (MIL) 1-800-866-4546 - The MIL is a toll-free 24-hour telephone service that provides timely and accurate information to families of deployed Canadian military personnel. MIL staff are available from 8am to 4:30pm (EST), Monday to Friday if you wish to speak to a counselor. Services are confidential.

Regular and Reserve members and families are encouraged to utilize our services. We don't want anyone to fall through the cracks. If you have a family member or friend away on temporary duty or training - for any amount of time - and you have not yet been called, please don't hesitate to call, email or drop in with any questions you might have on our deployment services.

Your feedback is appreciated. Please visit our Evaluation Page and complete the on-line questionaire.
